Introduction

Note: this page only catalogs third-party open-source projects and links to their official repositories; it neither develops, hosts nor distributes any software and assumes no liability. These are independent, open-source works written from the ground up, unaffiliated with and not authorized by any third-party commercial software or its maker; any third-party names, formats or trademarks are referenced for interoperability and description only.

FilmCraft is a free, open-source video editor, written from scratch in Rust from the video bitstream up, providing a full non-linear-editing (NLE) workflow. Great for cutting footage, color, sound and captions.

What it lets you do:

  • A familiar professional editing flow: a multi-track timeline with B-roll, titles and a caption track, markers, audio ducking and cleanup — panels and shortcuts follow mainstream editors, so veterans switch over seamlessly.
  • Color and sound: built-in pro grading, keyframe animation and live loudness meters — edit, grade and mix in one place.
  • Import and export common formats: many codecs and containers; its README even showcases an Apollo 11 documentary decoded, composited and graded entirely by FilmCraft from public-domain NASA footage.

Product highlights:

  • Own codecs, no FFmpeg: H.264, HEVC, ProRes and AAC encoders are written in Rust by the team from public specifications (shared with EffectCraft).
  • GPU compositor + linear light + exact integer time: truer color and edits that never drift.
  • Agent-drivable: every action is a command, exposed via CLI and MCP.

Team & tech: built by the community ArtCraft team (GitHub user storytold, site getartcraft.com); the Craft series is 100% pure Rust, an independent open-source work unaffiliated with any third-party commercial software.

Platforms: macOS, Windows, Linux, and a browser (WebAssembly) build.
